The Devialet Phantom Speaker, So Loud You May Need Ear Plugs

The Devialet Phantom is being hailed as the most powerful compact speaker ever seen, pushing out tunes at 99 decibels (which according to Bloomberg, is the same experience as sitting on a running motorcycle). The 3,000-watt speaker starts at $1,900 and to be honest, its specs may be a little intimidating if you don’t know anything about electronics.

Using Devialet-invented Analog Digital Hybrid (ADH) tech, the self-contained system combines the “sophistication of the Analog amplification (Class A) and the power and compactness of the Digital amplification (Class D).” The set-up is based around two hermetic woofers that apparently thrive under pressure, giving the Phantom intense beats that would probably be too loud for an apartment. When combined with the ADH, it can give levels of sound “at the edge of infrasound (16Hz).”

Basically, it means that the 25-pound speaker is incredibly versatile and can be used wirelessly with anything. There’s also a Spark app that gives you more control over the volume options, which is incredibly important since the unit itself only has one button and that’s for turning it on/off. If you don’t use the app, you’re simply utilizing the controls that are built into whatever you’re streaming it through, be it Spotify or iTunes, and that won’t give you the full effect.

With enough power to physically rattle you, college house parties will never be the same again.
