It’s always nice to see a familiar face when traveling, and that’s just how we felt when visiting the Florida outpost of Burtons Grill & Bar.
We were thrilled to see all of the flavors we love at our Hingham, MA favorite spot can also be found at the Boca Raton location. While local starters like Philly spring rolls stay in Massachusetts, the popular Florida spot in the Park Place shopping center offered new finds like risotto fritters made with Italian sausage and herbed cheese.
As a scratch kitchen, everything here can be prepared to your liking. Burtons is also well known for their enormous gluten-free menu that includes everything from firecracker shrimp, or braised short ribs with garlic mashed potatoes to crispy fish tacos, and even a 28-day aged ribeye.
Whether you opt for dining alfresco on their spacious outdoor patio or prefer to cool down inside their main dining room or at the bar, there is plenty of seating so you don’t have to encounter a long wait. (Be sure to also check out Happy Hour offered daily here from 4 to 7 p.m. when mixed drinks are just $8, and draft beer and wine are available for $2 off their regular price).
We recommend getting started with their signature Tso cauliflower – a delicious sampling topped with scallions, cilantro and sesame seeds. Complement it with an order of their “bread service,” a shareable rustic roll served with a tasty trio of pesto, herbed garlic butter and olive tapenade (also ideal for mopping up every last addicting bite of General Tso sauce).
The spinach and artichoke dip was one of the best we have ever sampled – filled with fresh baby spinach and artichoke hearts combined with cheddar and a spiced up jalapeno relish served with a side of tortilla chips.
When it comes to main events, their “Classics” section features everything from Mediterranean chicken risotto with lemon butter sauce to braised short ribs with mushroom rosemary au jus. We tried the pappardelle Bolognese, and were glad we did. A hearty portion of fresh pasta tossed in a flavorful meat sauce arrived topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese and complemented with a side of crunchy garlic ciabatta toast.
The standout crab-crusted haddock is one of their signature (and most popular) dishes, for good reason. A delicate piece of fresh haddock was topped with a generous portion of blue crab stuffing sitting atop fresh green beans, and herbed jasmine rice complemented with a savory lemon butter sauce.
Other highlights include salmon Romesco, lobster shrimp pasta, short rib grilled cheese, and steak frites.
Be sure to save room to sample their signature key lime pie dessert. A graham cracker crust is decadently layered with tangy key lime custard, topped with fresh whipped cream and garnished with a slice of fresh lime.
Burtons Grill & Bar is located at 5580 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton.
