Breguet is recognized for its significant contribution to watchmaking and craftsmanship and is also associated with the world of aviation. In response to an order from the French armed forces, Breguet launched the production of a legendary watch, the Type XX chronograph, which would equip the French Air Force and Naval Aviation until the early 1980s. Today, the brand completes its collection with a new resolutely sporty and modern model, the Type XXI 3815 chronograph.
This limited-edition iteration marks a new era in the history of this iconic aviation chronograph, as the Type XXI 3815 chronograph becomes the contemporary counterpart of the previous edition with a vintage aesthetic, the Type XXI 3817 presented in 2016. The new model opts for a 42mm case made of titanium, a material renowned for its resistance and lightness on the wrist.
With its finely fluted case-band, which makes it easier to grip, this new timepiece is associated with sport, a vocation reinforced by water resistance to 100 meters, a screw-down crown and a finish alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The bidirectional bezel, also made in titanium, is fitted with a contrasting black lacquered 60-minute scale, reinforcing the contemporary aspect of this edition.
The Type XXI 3815 chronograph sports a deep black dial, whose modernity and sporting spirit are galvanized by bright colours. The wearer has the choice of green or orange numerals, indexes and hands, all largely luminescent, with only two counters - a 24-hour indicator and a small second, placed respectively at 3 and 9 o'clock. The chronograph minutes totalizer is positioned in the centre, like the seconds with a new precision timer and a date at 6 o'clock completing this modern display.
An essential element of this collection is the self-winding mechanical movement. The movement is equipped with the 'flyback' function, which comes along with benefits from the latest technologies implemented by Maison Breguet, such as the escapement and the silicon balance-spring. The sapphire crystal case-back reveals the movement down to the smallest detail and a gold oscillating weight with treatment specific to this edition.
Presented on a calfskin strap with a casual spirit, the stitching recalls the colour of the indexes and hands on the dial, completing with a new folding clasp with three blades that will ensure comfort and safety on the wrist; the Type XXI 3815 chronograph is produced at 250 pieces per colour. A new step in the history of this legendary watch, which looks towards more contemporary and resolutely sporting skies.
