To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, Harry Winston is releasing the limited-edition Premier Monkey Automatic 36mm. Those who were born during the year of the monkey are characterized by intelligence, mischievousness and playfulness, all traits that are represented in the latest timepiece. The monkey, the ninth of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac, found its way into the Harry Winston collection, but just for a few select customers—only eight timepieces were made.
An 18-karat gold monkey squats along the bottom of the dial playfully grabbing at the nine o’clock bezel while his tail winds around the emerald-cut diamond sitting at the 12 o’clock hour. Inside the 18-karat rose gold casing, the gold-flecked watch face sparkles. Composed of a pink mother-of-pearl dial with dots of 24-karat gold, each piece was hand-set into individually-carved hallows. In addition to the 12 o’clock diamond and the monkey’s eye, the bezel, lugs and ardillon buckle are set with 74 brilliant cut diamonds, totaling 2.37 carats.
The piece runs on a HW2008 caliber made up of 186 individual components. The automatic movement, which runs with 28 jewels and 28,000 vibrations per hour, can been seen through the watch’s transparent back casing along with the Côtes de Genève finishing. The watch measures 36mm in diameter and is secured with a black satin strap.
