Mac may have a history of collaborating with designers and celebrities, but cult favorite Urban Decay is not about to be left behind. For their first A-list collab the cosmetic company has tapped the queen herself—Gwen Stefani. While Stefani and Urban Decay co-founder Wende Zomnir have known each other for a number of years, neither have felt the time was right to work together, until now. "We've always been such huge fans of Gwen's work over at UD," Zomnir said in a release. "We've wanted to make this project happen for years, and finally it was the right time. We found a true partner in her, and it was amazing to channel her energy and creativity into these products. She truly represents the Urban Decay spirit."
Stefani has a self-professed makeup obsession, and anyone who has followed her career knows she’s been a beauty and fashion icon since the Tragic Kingdom days. She’s a huge fan of anything and everything beauty—she even brought her makeup and hair artists on stage at this weekend’s Kaaboo Music Festival to have the crowd sing them Happy Birthday. So of course Urban Decay couldn’t just slap her face on the label and put out a few new colors. Stefani has been working closely with the brand over the past few months to design everything in the collection from packaging and shades to formulas and textures. While the brand is keeping a tight lid on which products we can expect (we can almost guarantee there will be a bold red lip in the collection) we won’t have to wait long to find out as the collection debuts November 22.
"When Urban Decay came to me to collaborate, I immediately thought it was a perfect match. It's all about creative self-expression, being strong and not being afraid to go outside of the box. Everyone in my life knows I absolutely love makeup. From a very young age, it was an artistic passion of mine. I actually used to be a makeup artist. I love wearing makeup and having so many ways to express myself through it. It's my war paint,” Stefani explained. “To be able to do a collaboration with people who get that concept and who are just as passionate about it is a dream come true. We've made and created products that I actually wear every single day. It's the real thing. I'm obsessed with everything we've done, and I can't wait to share it."
