Luxury makeup company MAC Cosmetics is known for teaming up with some of the most artistic, fashion-forward, and truly inspiring names in the beauty industry, and this next pairing is no exception. Liz Goldwyn, the Los Angeles-based artist, filmmaker and fashion muse has just signed on to create makeup bags for the iconic brand's new holiday collection called "Fabulousness."For this talented beauty, Hollywood glamour runs in her blood, as she is the granddaughter of the movie-studio founder and Academy Award-winning producer Samuel L. Goldwyn and actress Frances Howard. However, Liz doesn’t rely simply on her famous family— she has already made a name for herself by creating a book and HBO documentary called “Pretty Things” on 20th Century burlesque queens. MAC supported this 2005 film by creating the makeup look for Goldwyn and the other performers in the film's finale; therefore, Liz was the obvious choice to create lingerie-inspired accessories for the company’s first line of bags.
“I was looking for the perfect makeup bag with a classic boudoir look when I saw John Demsey [group president of MAC’s parent, the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.] during Oscar week in 2011. I asked him why they weren’t making any, and he said, ‘Why don’t you do it?’” Goldwyn told WWD.
The designer took inspiration from her own collection which includes vintage leopard-print panties, along with laces and nets. The bags feature pastel satin exteriors with a leopard-print plastic covering that match the interior which consists of lace-printed plastic.
When discussing her new venture with MAC, Liz explained, “What I love about this project is that it allows me to design something that’s beautiful and accessible,” as bags from this collection range from $39.50 to $49.50— and include brushes, eye and lip products that come in the smaller bags.
Pieces from the MAC Faulousness line will hit stores October 25 and will be available for purchase until December 20. The three-piece range will include a brush bag, an evening style clutch and a hanging bag stuffed with various MAC products and palettes inspired by Goldwyn’s trademark vintage style.
