Last year while the industry was mourning the loss of a great designer, Mick Jagger was mourning the loss of his partner L’Wren Scott. This year to honor her, Jagger will be funding a three year scholarship program at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins. The scholarship will be offered over three consecutive years to one incoming MA fashion student starting in the October 2015 semester. Funds will cover the two year course, materials and contribute to living expenses.
"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way,” Jagger said in a statement following news of her death. “She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.” And it seems he refuses to let her be forgotten. Scott was self-taught and had never attended any formal design school, but she was close friends with Professor Louise Wilson, the late course director of the MA fashion program. Scott was said to be “impressed with Louise’s commitment to excellence and her dedication to fashion education.”
“I am very grateful to receive this extremely generous scholarship package, gifted by Mick Jagger in L’Wren Scott’s name,” Fabio Piras, current course director of the MA fashion program at Central Saint Martins, said in a statement. “Our students sacrifice much to take up this course and work extremely hard when they are here. I am proud of the fact that this course, through its alumni, continues to be recognized as a major contributor to the future of the global fashion industry.”
