Here are a couple of our favorite DIY craft ideas — children will love them, but remember, there’s no age limit to having fun and celebrating!
Patriotic Beanbag Toss
Sometimes kids (and even adults!) can get restless or hyper after a plate of burgers and hotdogs. A great way to quell that need for activity is to play a game.
Luckily, there’s the Patriotic Beanbag Toss, a game that can be enjoyed by both kids and adults (with all sorts of crazy rule variations). Making this craft only requires some empty soup cans, paint, and an active imagination.
Paint the cans in any red, white, and blue design you want, wait for them to dry, and you’re done! We recommend using a small beanbag as it increases the possibilities for game variations.
Toilet Paper Roll Bald Eagle
This is one of our cuter DIY craft ideas, and should garner a lot of praise from your guests for how adorable it is. This little critter can be made with some brown and orange construction paper, scissors, markers, toilet paper rolls, glue, and crafting eyes. Start by having the kids trace their hands on some brown construction paper as these will serve as the wings.
Wrap two-thirds of the toilet paper roll with more brown construction paper and cut out orange beaks and feet. Glue all of these pieces onto the toilet paper roll along with some crafting eyes, and you’ve got yourself the America’s national bird.
Independence Star Wands
These Independence Star Wands are a perfect way to get the Fourth of July festivities started. All you need is some red, white, and blue construction paper, scissors, popsicle sticks, hot glue, and some ribbon. Cut a couple of large, medium, and small sized stars in red, white, and blue, and glue them together in order of decreasing height.
Glue the completed star onto a popsicle stick and tie a ribbon to the base, making sure the ends of the ribbon stick out equally on both sides. This is an excellent craft to pass out to guests at gatherings and incredibly easy for even the youngest of children.
Star Streamers
This craft is slightly more difficult than the other ones to make but will inject the spirit of America into any home. For this craft, you’ll need some popsicle sticks, paint, hot glue, ribbon, scissors, and some tissue paper.
Start by hot gluing some popsicle sticks together in the shape of a star. After it dries, cut out several long strips of tissue paper and glue them to the back of the star. For the finishing touch, glue a ribbon loop onto the star so the streamer can be hung on the wall. It’s a great way to add patriotic colors on Independence Day.
