San Francisco Zoo

Founded in 1929, the San Francisco Zoo is one of the few attractions in the city located on the eastern shores of the Sunset District, easily accessible by Muni train. It covers 100 acres and is the oldest and largest zoo in Northern California.

Many exhibitions are small islands surrounded by a moat, giving visitors a view of animals free from the confines of a cage. The San Francisco Zoo is home to 250 species of life including river otters, lions, cassowaries, lemurs, grizzlies, rhinoceros and many more.
