The Sausalito Art Festival, now in its sixtieth year, is considered to be one of the oldest and most prestigious events of its kind in the United States. The event showcases some of the most talented concentration of artists, photographers, sculptors, jewelers, and craftsman found anywhere, and attracts thousands of visitors annually. The waterfront village of Sausalito makes a lovely backdrop for any whom wish to spend this Labor Day weekend, September 1-3, 2012 browsing the tents set up throughout Marinship Park, located adjacent to the Ferry landing.
Some of the artist highlights for this year’s festival include metal sculptures by Gino Miles, surrealist photography by William Vanscoy, jewelry by Isabelle Ponsillico and Adam Neely, as well as hundreds more well-established artists from the San Francisco area and beyond. Craftsman and artists exhibited during the festival are hand chosen after a strict jury process, ensuring that work displayed is of the highest quality. In addition to the showcase, gourmet food, musical entertainment, and special exhibitions, such as the American Icon Exhibit (which features international art contest winners) will help to top off this year’s event.
The Festival is sponsored by the Sausalito Art Festival Foundation, who takes proceeds from the event to help support the local community art programs as well as helps create student scholarship programs, and aids other nonprofit organizations and community service programs. The silent auction that is held annually at the Festival often raises more than $15,000 for scholarship and educational support.
