Not to brag, but California’s list of Forbes Five-Star rated hotels, restaurants and spas greatly outweighs New York’s (west coast, best coast!). Also, this year, the Golden state’s hotel selection grew by two with the addition of The Park Hyatt Aviara Resort in our own backyard and Rosewood Sand Hill in the Silicon Valley.
The Park Hyatt Aviara sits seaside in Carlsbad with 327 guestrooms and 43 suites. This stylish hotel overlooks the Batiquitos Lagoon and is only minutes from the Pacific Ocean. The property is also home to a sprawling 15,000-square-foot spa and fitness center, Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole golf course, high-end shops and a 3.5-acre recreation lawn complete with bocce ball, basketball and sand volleyball courts, badminton and croquet facilities. With the inclusion of Aviara Kids Academy by Camp Hyatt, a 3,200-square-foot outdoor swimming pool and a children’s picnic area, the Park Hyatt is also a great family destination.
The only hotel in California to be named in all three categories is San Diego’s Grand Del Mar. The resort’s renowned spa is one of only 23 Five-Star facilities in the country, and is home to the second location of Haim Salon. Along with their spa, Addison, the property’s signature restaurant helmed by longtime Chef William Bradley, again garnered the prestigious award.
Named after the architect who designed the property, the fine dining venue offers seasonal four-course meals and an ever-changing French-inspired menu. Inside, tables dressed in white linens sit elegantly against European-style furnishings, and arched windows view out onto the Tom Fazio golf course.
