Some of the best hotels are not those with the most modern architecture or high-tech amenities—they are the properties with a history and a story to tell. But London’s new boutique hotel, The Wellesley combines the best of both with a historic venue and tech-savvy updates. Originally a 1920's townhouse, the property was turned into a jazz club before finally becoming a hotel.
Dubbed London's first "boutique grand" hotel, the property maintains its Roaring-Twenties glamour by giving it a twist for the modern age. Home to 36 guest rooms, The Wellesley offers a luxurious experience including 24-hour butler services, a complimentary Rolls-Royce car service, marble baths, in-room tablets, and top-floor suites with views overlooking the adjacent Hyde Park.
While the amenities and services may be those we’re used to receiving in the 21st century, the atmosphere alone will transport visitors to the height of the Jazz Age. Interior design is reminiscent of the art deco era and rooms are named after prominent musicians like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong and Josephine Baker.
The lounge area, Jazz Room, hosts nightly live jazz performances and serves a world-class collection of top-shelf whiskey, cognac and Armagnac brandy from the Crystal Bar. The property also houses the UK’s largest humidor with over $2 million worth of the world’s finest cigars in their Cigar Lounge. Those who prefer a more intimate, smoke-free setting can experience authentic Italian food or afternoon tea in the Oval Restaurant, or the comfort of their own suite.
