Steamboat Springs is one of Colorado’s hideaways. Four hours from Denver, or a quick flight into the Steamboat airport, the mountain town is a breeding ground for Olympians, out-of-the-limelight getaway for celebrities, and perfect summer or winter vacation spot for families and business travelers alike. At the foot of the slopes is the recently-renovated Sheraton Steamboat, offering a wide variety of leisure and business services year round.
Sheraton Steamboat is the only ski-in-ski-out hotel in Steamboat Springs. With legendary champagne powder, a term that was actually trademarked by the resort, the snow often reaches over 100 inches annually. Don’t let the chilly figures fool you, however. Known as “Ski Town, USA”, Steamboat is now incorporating the other love of the region, biking. “Bike Town, USA” during the warmer months is seeing a profound improvement right in front of Steamboat Sheraton, a new promenade and the hosting of events such as Ride the Rockies and USA Pro Cycling Challenge.
Originally built in 1972, the Sheraton Steamboat recently underwent a $20 million renovation. Home to 186 guest rooms, a convention ballroom and business facility, and 21 Morningside Villas, the property follows the three rules of real estate: location, location, location. Steps from the slopes, the property has a year-round outdoor pool, workout facility, and rooftop Jacuzzis.
“Our Dine private dining room holds up to 32 people,” explained Kristal Eckley, Director of Sales and Marketing for the hotel, “From Sevens Restaurant to Dine, we have a wonderful variety for our guests.” Dine utilizes a contemporary mountain décor with white painted antler chandeliers and ostrich leather seating, the nod to the surrounding area without being the tired rustic feel is refreshing and chic. Overlooking the mountain and the square, the location cannot be beat and the restaurants offer unique leisure or business options designed for travelers of all kinds. Saddles Bar and Grill, The Lift café, Sevens Restaurant, and seasonal Fish Creek Grill (summer only) and Bear River Bar and Grill (winter only) are all part of the Sheraton Steamboat culinary family with offerings even the pickiest eaters will enjoy.
The Link business center, a staple of Sheraton’s brand, offers internet seekers a cozy and welcoming alternative workspace. The large lobby with unique woven leather walls, stunning glass chandeliers, and rich finishes appropriate to both summer and winter, all speak to the successful renovation. With a new amphitheater and creekside promenade, Sheraton Steamboat will be hopping year-round.
The most luxurious accommodations on the property have to be the 21 Morningside Villas. With slopeside views overlooking the gondola and surrounding valley, the Villas are available in both two- and three- bedroom configurations. Affording the same services of the adjoining hotel, the Villas enjoy their own eighth floor rooftop Jacuzzis, designer finishes in the well-appointed rooms designed by Kimberly Timmons, and large, full floorplans which far exceed the nearby accommodations in the main building. Built in 1998 and renovated to their current mountain feel and flavor in 2008, the Villas are available on a nightly rental basis, timeshare, or ownership as individual condos. With private entrances through valet or the parking garage, the views and access to all facilities make for a stunning vacation stay.
Red Art Gallery, Play game room, and Off the Beaten Path retail are all surprising and welcome additions to the already well-established resort. Steamboat Sheraton also owns an 18-hole golf course that operates during the warmer months. Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club is only a mile from the hotel and affords sweeping views of the Yampa Valley while playing a round of golf. A full-service day spa rounds out the entire experience, offering relaxing services to soothe winter- or summer-related aches and pains.
Steamboat Sheraton has a new spring it its step and is enjoying a city growing up around it. With luxury accommodations in Morningside Villas, fine dining, and slopeside access complete with ski concierge, the out-of-the-way town of Steamboat is becoming more and more a destination in and of itself.
