Although Grammy Award-winning, singer-songwriter James Taylor’s childhood home sold in June, details of the sale have been kept closed until now. Purchased by James Keith “JK” Brown and Eric Diefenbach, major art benefactors from Manhattan, the seven-bedroom Chapel Hill house on Morgan Creek Road was bought for $1.66 million. Previously owned by James and Patricia Johnston who purchased it from the Taylor clan in the ‘70s, the new sale was $120,000 over asking price.
The two-story estate features modern design, floor-to-ceiling windows, a wrap-around balcony, outdoor terrace and a playhouse. Next to the house sits a two-bedroom guest residence with a living area and bathroom. According to the Charlotte Business Journal, “the buyers intended to restore the Modernist home and preserve its 24 acres along the banks of Morgan Creek.”
