Just days away from the beginning of the 2015 baseball season, the Atlanta Braves have officially announced a partnership with Comcast to help finance and outfit their new stadium. First discussed back in 2013, the Braves will build a new stadium, Suntrust Park, in Cobb County. Estimated to be completed by 2017, the property covers 60 acres of land and was previously projected to cost $672 million, with the Braves themselves being a “significant investor.” With this new deal, however, the Braves will be privately financing roughly $452 million of the new $622 million estimate.
As Comcast will be providing the “high-tech infrastructure” of the new stadium, they are also taking the opportunity to expand their presence in the area and create more jobs. They will be moving their regional headquarters to the nine-story office building adjacent from the ballpark, and will hire roughly 1,000 new employees. They have agreed to “lend [their] expertise to drive the most technologically advanced ballpark and mixed-use development ever built.” In return Comcast’s Xfinity brand logo will be attached to the lounge space which can be seen from both the field and plaza areas.
Below are renderings of what to we can (hopefully) expect when the new stadium opens.
