Wider's new €26,000,000 (USD $28M) GENESI project is moving along steadily, having recently moved to a new stage in its sea trials. The company has switched focus to the vessel’s lithium polymer battery banks that are at the core of the luxury superyacht’s power supply, reporting that the tests were a total success.

“The yacht ran comfortably at 5 knots in ZEM [Zero Emission Mode] consuming no fuel whatsoever…but the most remarkable and memorable aspect was that she ran in total silence!” remarked Tilli Antonelli, Founder and CEO of Wider in a press release.

Over the course of a few days, GENESI was run exclusively on her 546kWh batteries off the coast of Ancona, Italy. The energy supply, which is apparently strong enough to power the “entire hotel system on board” and its propulsion system, further emphasize the company’s belief that diesel electric technology can easily be applied to a superyacht.
