According to Boat International, Pendennis Shipyard Ltd. is responsible for building one of the world's largest sailing catamaran's, named Hemisphere. As having a keen love for diving, the owners of Hemisphere decided to create their own luxury catamaran after failing to find one that fit their specifications. The luxury yacht was originally conceived of being around 35 meters but once hiring architects Van Peteghem Lauriot Prévost (VPLP), the minds behind the Jules Verne record holder Groupama 3, Hemisphere grew to a staggering 44.2 meters (145.0 feet), which was as large as she could get without dealing with a whole new set of policies.Hemisphere met with many setbacks, having originally been intended for completion in late 2007 through US yard Derecktor. Due to various financial delays through the builder, Pendennis was ultimately chosen to take the project on. Now finished, Hemisphere can finally sail as she was intended.
With a cruising speed of 11 knots, Hemisphere has a crew of 10 and a guest allowance of 12. Michael Leach Design was hired for the boat's styling and deliberately designed it to be clutter free, with specific necessities like winches and bollards to be camouflaged. Hemisphere has many open spaces where guests can relax and enjoy themselves.
The luxury catamaran has many special features, including a Jacuzzi, a spa pool, a dining table for 12 with an image of the world etched in its glass top, a large saloon that takes advantage of the ocean view, and two VIP cabins that give you the option of opening them up into one large open space. With diving enthusiasts for owners, Hemisphere also has many sporty amenities. Featuring a comprehensive dive center that comes with Nitrox Air, on board dive instructors, and a 54 foot F&S Custom sport fishing boat, fans of water sports will feel right at home.
Without a fixed itinerary and with a three meter draught, Hemisphere can go places no other sailing yachts of her size could ever dream of.
