Last night was a big one for Lexus, revealing their new 2016 LX 570 luxury SUV and GS luxury sedan models (GS 200t, GS 350 and the hybrid GS 450h) at Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance. With the new GS marking a “bolder design” and the LX 570 featuring a total makeover, the marque really gave it their all at the popular Monterey Car Week event.
Lexus promises that they left no line exterior untouched on the 2016 LX 570, only leaving the door panels from last year’s model the same. The front grille is trimmed with satin chrome, new LED headlamps were installed, and “20-inch split 10-spoke wheels” (with the option for 21-inch split) have been added. Inside, you will find large 12.3-inch touch-screens, wood trims, and the option for a mini-fridge in the center console.
Under the hood, the upgraded utility vehicle swapped its six-speed for an eight-speed automatic transmission. According to the press release, the “formidable 5.7-liter V8 engine [that] produces 383 horsepower and delivers 90-percent of its 403 lb-ft peak torque at just 3,600 rpm.” Additionally, the New Drive Mode Select feature (which can already be found in other models) was installed, enabling customization of the powertrain and suspension, while the added panoramic view camera makes hitching a trailer to the back of the car far easier.
The 2016 GS line adds Bi-LED headlights, a revised front bumper and rear, updated taillights, and new 18- and 19-inch machine-finish wheel looks. The GS 350 gets an engine makeover with its new 3.5-liter V-6 (311hp and 280 lb-ft of torque) and eight-speed automatic, while the 450h’s power stats remain the same. Making its debut is the brand new GS 200t rear-wheel drive model—new is always better, right? With a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and eight-speed automatic transmission, the 200t offers 241hp and 258 lb-ft of torque.
With so many additions to the GS, Lexus decided to ramp up the color options and added paint options previously only used on custom jobs and concept designs, like the Matador Red Mica, Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0, and Nightfall Mica.
Set prices haven’t been announced just yet, but the new 2016 LX 570 and GS lineup are set to go on sale in October.
