Based off these images and the above video of the newly launched Ferrari 488 Spider, this is one luxury auto that will surely be plastered all over the walls of teenage bedrooms. Not only is the auto marque touting the design as their “most powerful ever mid-rear-engined V8 car to feature the patented retractable hard top,” the Spider is so aerodynamically efficient that Ferrari is guaranteeing “optimal downforce whilst reducing drag.”
Under the hood is a 3902 cc turbo-charged V8 that offers a maximum power output of 670 CV, 760 Nm at 3,000 rpm in VII gear for torque, and the ability to go 0-62mph in three seconds and 0-124mph in 8.7—meaning you can drive 437 yards in just a little over 10 seconds and 1,093 yards in only 18.9. Apparently the turbo engine doesn’t have any lag time when revved and the throttle response is just 0.8 seconds.
In terms of its appearance, the 488 Spider features a blown spoiler and an underbody that includes vortex generators—both of which help with its aerodynamics. The glass rear wind stop is electronically adjustable and when it’s completely lowered, the passengers will be able to hear the full force of the engine.
The 488 Spider won’t be officially introduced to the world until September’s Frankfurt International Motor Show, but it definitely seems worth the wait.
