Elon Musk is officially the coolest CEO. Late last night at the Hawthorne Municipal Airport outside of Los Angeles he announced the new Tesla D (which stands for dual motor), which is a way better all-wheel version of the Model S Sedan. Okay, so the car won't completely drive itself like rumors were predicting (though that is still in Tesla's future), but it's still a Tesla and that alone is enough for most.

The D will be able to hit 60mph in a little over three seconds and will have a lower range of travel (275 miles) on just one charge, which is 10 miles more than the Model S. Though Musk confirms that the new car will not completely operate itself without driver involvement, he did announce that the new auto will have a host of autopilot features, like the ability to change lanes and park itself (you don't even have to be inside it).

The brand will release three versions, each with a D to distinguish them from the Model S—the 60 will become the 60D, the 85 will be the 85D, and the P85 will turn into the P85D. The first two models will be hitting the market in February, while the P85D will get to buyers in December.
