Having been founded in 1913, Aston Martin has worked hard to become the world's premiere luxury car company and with the release of their new sports car, Vanquish, they're pushing themselves even further. The 2014 AM 310 Vanquish, with its upgraded aspirated 6.0-litre V12 engine and sleek design, is a car James Bond himself would feel lucky to drive.
Aston Martin views Vanquish as a symbol of their "exciting and confident future." The design of the car embodies classic Aston Martin, with its stylish elongated side strakes and LED rear light blades which are a throwback to the One-77 car. With a recognizable look, Vanquish brings in new details like the Aero Duct on the rear boot lid, which works to counteract lift at the rear of the car when moving at fast speeds.
Dr. Ulrich Bez, Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, says Vanquish "mixes beautiful design with impressive technology such as the superb new infotainment system. This is the latest incarnation of everything we know, informed and developed from One-77. It is the ultimate Super Grand Tourer - confident and assured - and is the newest representation of Power, Beauty and Soul."
The new AM 310 Vanquish's V12 petrol engine, with a peak of 565 bph (573 PS), is combined with the proven Touchtronic two six-speed automatic gearbox, giving the car more enhanced performance capabilities. Aston Martin believes that the "raw statistics speak for themselves: 573 PS at 6,750 rpm, 457 lb ft of torque at 5,500 rpm, 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 183 mph." Aston Martin designed Vanquish to feature body panels constructed from carbon fiber due to its strength-to-weight ratio and flexibility, while also improving "torsional rigidity by more than 25%."
Vanquish also features a suspension system that is highly adaptive, allowing drivers to set it to Normal, Sport, or Track. Another neat feature is the launch control, which helps the driver accelerate rapidly from a standing start, essentially rocketing the car forward.
Not all of the improvements were chosen for their enhanced drivability and appearance, some were made in the name of practicality. Vanquish has a more spacious cabin and boot, 60% larger than that of the DBS (the model Vanquish is replacing) and allowing the owner to carry significantly more luggage without having to sacrifice the flash of a luxury sports car.
The two-door coupe style comes with 2+0 or an optional 2+2 seating, and full-grain leather interior that feature memory front seats. Also improved upon is the car's interior gadgets. The infotainment system is equipped with 1,000W Bang and Olufsen BeoSound 15-speaker audio system, as well as a Garmin satellite navigation system and a 6.5" flip-up LCD screen.
Priced at $279,995, Vanquish is expected to hit the American market in early 2013.
