2014 marks the 25th anniversary of British audio brand Meridian's very first digital speaker launch, the D600 — which was actually the "fist digital loudspeaker in the world." They decided to celebrate the occasion by creating a Special Edition series of three new models, the Meridian DSP Digital Active Loudspeakers, which are finally available to order.
"The new Special Edition DSP Digital Active Loudspeakers from Meridian provide the most revealing, lifelike and powerful performance of any Meridian loudspeakers to date," says Bob Stuart, one of the bran's co-founders and current Chairman and Chief Technical Officer. "Developed from expertise honed over more than 25 years of true research and continual system development, these new Special Edition loudspeakers specifically benefit from Meridian's scientific research into how humans perceive sound, or 'how we hear,' in particular focusing on how our brains process live sound."
The line consists of the DSP8000 SE, the DSP7200 SE and the DSP5200 SE, all featuring a "beryllium domed tweeter, new electronics and driver clam rings." The brand promises that the new semi-horn-loaded tweeter gives great transient response and wide bandwidth, helping to really get the most out of high-resolution recordings. The Enhanced Bass Alignment gives a clean bass line that's fast, while the clam rings keep everything stable.
Not wanting to leave existing owners of the DSP speakers behind, Meridian is offering upgrades to the older models that brings them up the SE standards. The option also comes with a new warranty for the entire speaker system, which is pretty cool.
Prices range from $10,000 to $80,000.
