There has been tons of speculation as to who might be cast as a young Han Solo in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff and according to Variety, a shortlist of talent has been leaked by sources. Finding a young actor to fill Harrison Ford’s shoes is certainly not an easy task, so we are glad that Disney and Lucasfilm are taking their time in making their final decision by seeing thousands of actors. According to this apparent short list though, the companies have narrowed the options down to a dozen names, which includes Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort and Dave Franco.
Though the movie isn’t expected to start filming until January 2017 (with a tentative release date of May 2018), the chosen actor may end up appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars, which could explain the early casting. Being released in December, this new Rogue One will take place between Episode III and Episode IV, which would mean that a young Han popping up makes sense.
Also included in the list of hopefuls are Jack Reynor, Scott Eastwood, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner. Personally, I’d like to see a newcomer nab the role, like Canadian actor Anthony Ingruber who already played a young Ford in The Age of Adaline. Not only is Ingruber the spitting image of Ford, he’s gained tons of attention among Star Wars fans through his impersonations of Han Solo, which he’s uploaded to his YouTube account (he’s only 16 in the popular Han Solo video). It’s a longshot and probably won’t happen at this point, but it would certainly be refreshing.
