Back to the Future fans have been waiting for this moment for years. It’s finally 2015—which means we’re getting hover-boards, flying cars and those super sweet clothes that auto-adjust and dry all on their own! It’s a techie utopia—sort of. While the 2015 universe shown in the second installment of the sci-fi franchise got a few things right, like motion-based video games, tablets, Skype and hover-boards, last time we checked our cars were still firmly planted to the ground. So sad. But there is one win in the making. By the end of the year, Marty McFly wannabes will be able to buy Nike’s self-lacing Air Mags. You can forget all about tying up your sneakers the old-fashioned way. So 2014.
The original shoes, created by Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, were specially made for the film, but after Nike Air Mags were released in 2011, without power laces of course, he’s been working on a functional pair. Announced yesterday at the Agenda Emerge conference, Nice Kicks reports that “his team is working as hard as possible to deliver the Nike Mag in 2015 with Power Laces, but also reminded us all that we still have ‘11 and two-thirds months left in 2015.’” We’re not fickle, we’ll wait. The shoes are still being released in the predicted year and soon we can live out all our Back to the Future II fantasies with our Nike Air Mags, Skype and iPads. Still no time travel though.
