When Marc Jacobs and Cher showed up to the Met Gala together earlier this month we just knew something was up. Our suspicions were confirmed today when Jacobs announced via his Instagram that the 69-year-old singer is the new face of the label. In the promo image Cher sits against a red background dressed in a pleated, floor length dress, black motorcycle jacket and black gloves from the Fall/Winter 2015-2016 collection. With her perfectly unkempt waist-length hair and monochromatic wardrobe she looks a bit more like a Gothic queen than a pop-star—and we totally dig it.
Shot by David Sims, the campaign comes after a season of popular ads with older women—Joan Didion posed for Céline and Joni Mitchell was snapped for Saint Laurent. Marc Jacobs—who has a history of working with emboldened and unconventional women—seemed to have picked the perfect muse in the Believe singer. “The amazing and beautiful CHER!” he exclaimed in his Instagram post. “This is just the beginning...More to come!!” Hopefully the remaining images will be released sooner rather than later—she's been a fashion icon since the '60s and we can't wait to see her transformed by one of our favorite designers.
