Chanel’s latest fashion film was teased this morning, and it almost makes Gisele’s Chanel short look like a Walmart commercial. To promote the upcoming Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d'Art collection, Pharrell, Cara Delevingne and Karl Lagerfeld got together to make a film that would be the stuff of fashion dreams. While the snippet released today is only a teaser of Reincarnation, it gives us 40 seconds of magical beauty and Delevingne, who is currently persuing a music and acting career, gets to use her many talents as she dances with Pharrell, the two singing in the background. A play on the film’s title, the two are reincarnations of an Austrian emperor and empress—Delevinge dressed in a royal ball gown that would make Kate Middleton jealous, and Pharrell looking the part of a Disney prince. As with most Chanel campaigns, this too has a story anchored in the brand’s history as Gabrielle Chanel visited Salzburg in 1954 and took particular interest in a bellhops jacket, turning it into the Chanel jacket—one of the most iconic pieces of the house.
Filmed by Lagerfeld, the short features CC the World written by Pharrell and sung by the pop star and Delevingne. Reportedly Lagerfeld sent the singer “all kinds of Viennese music” to help him channel the spirit of Austria. “He was easy to work with, very pleasant. He’s very professional,” the designer told WWD, and noted that he was a great partner for Delevingne’s first forays into music. “[She] wanted to sing for a long time, for her to start singing with Pharrell is not that bad, no?” The seven minute film will be released the night before the Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d'Art show on December 1, so until then we’ll have to content ourselves with dreams of 19th century Chanel-clad queens and kings.
