Whoa, Winona—someone went and snagged themselves a hot new fashion gig! For Fall/Winter 2014, Rag & Bone cast actors Winona Ryder and Michael Pitt as the faces of their new campaign. As it’s been roughly a decade since Ryder’s last campaign (Pitt has been with Rag & Bone since F/W 2013), we’re pretty excited about seeing the actress back in the limelight. Chosen for her perennially youthful looks and undying talent, Ryder looks perfect rocking her iconic (faux) crop cut and menswear-inspired designs.
“Both actors are unconventional in their own right and indefinably compelling, which really appeals to us,” said Marcus Wainwright, Managing Partner at Rag & Bone. Shot by Glen Luchford, with hair and make-up/grooming by Duffy and Gucci Westman, both actors look at home casually strolling through the area of Coney Island, New York. “We wanted to shoot our FW14 campaigns in New York and thought Coney Island, with its gritty amusement district which is so atmospheric and authentic, would be a good fit,” Wainwright explained. “No direction was given—the talent was shot in a freewheeling style so their personalities would come through.”
While the brand might love the two actors for their beauty and edgy representation of the brand, it seems they’re fans of their work as well. “To us, Winona Ryder is a bona fide icon. One of the things that makes her so cool is that although she has this incredible career, she isn’t interested in being a movie star. For her, it’s all about the craft. She also has this beautiful timeless quality,” Wainwright said. David Neville, another Managing Partner at Rag & Bone agrees. “We established a strong relationship with Michael on our FW 13 campaign—he absolutely gets our brand and looks amazing in the clothes. He’s a very talented guy with a lot of artistic integrity.”
The campaign will run this fall in select international editions of Vogue and GQ, as well as in issues of WSJ Magazine, Vanity Fair, Interview, Lui and Gentlewoman amongst others.
