Oh, Zooey Deschanel. There’s something about the quirky actress that makes her an unexpected fashion icon—maybe it’s those lash-grazing bangs or vintage, throwback dresses—either way she’s one of our favorite celebrities to watch. Now she’s bringing that signature style to Macy’s in a new collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger named To Tommy, From Zooey (adorable!), which will include 16 pieces in an all-American red, white and blue palette. Shirtdresses, mod sheaths and mini dresses fill the collection, which heavily channel Deschanel’s personal aesthetic. “I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe,” she told WWD. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”
The collection is slated to be released April 14, but we can see a few shots of the actress sporting her designs now, as well as a few sketches of what the rest of the line might look like. “They are sixties-inspired short dresses. There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the sixties in London,” Hilfiger explained. “That’s not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we’d be inspired by the sixties for the runway, but it’s a new way to look at fun, American classics.”
While the entire line of dresses will hit Macy’s in April, select Tommy Hilfiger stores will also carry an exclusive line of jewelry and handbags designed by Deschanel. Priced from $99-$199, this collection may just be the start for the two collaborators. “We enjoy working with each other so far, so who knows what might be in store for the future,” Hilfiger said.
